Traditional crash data alone often fails to capture emerging safety risks, particularly for pedestrians and bicyclists. To address this gap, transportation agencies are increasingly using near-miss conflict data to identify risks earlier and guide proactive safety actions. This session showcases how agencies across the Northeast and Midwest are applying conflict analytics in practice, including:
• Supplementing crash analysis and evaluating safety countermeasures (DelDOT).
• Proactively assessing safety at and around transit stops (IndyGo,Indianapolis).
• Prioritizing pedestrian lighting and safety investments (NJTPA). Attendees will gain practical insight into how near-miss conflict data is being integrated into real-world safety programs to support timely and targeted interventions.
