Senior ITS Engineer


Boston,- or remote if in the New England region. May be required to come into the office once or twice per month.

  • The candidate will need to be a forward-looking team player who can work collaboratively with others, in a dynamic setting to support external client engagement, project management, business development, and internal leadership.

  • The ideal person must be able to communicate their ideas clearly and convincingly to peers, senior leadership, partners, and clients.

  • Support growth of ITS practice in the region

  • Serves as lead engineer on mid- to large size projects. Prepare and negotiate scopes and fees; manage tasks, schedule, and budget; manage project financials.

  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise. Participate in client project meetings.

  • Perform systems engineering activities (ITS Architecture, Concept of Operations, Requirements, ITS Design, Test Plans, Verification).

  • ITS software development oversight including preparation of procurement documents.

  • Develop plans, specifications, and estimate for ITS design plans.

  • Perform construction services for ITS projects (review submittals, respond to requests for information, offer field advice).

  • Support design-bid-build and design-build projects.

  • Approves and signs off on work.

  • Presents complex technical solutions to clients.

  • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others.

  • Stay up-to-date on new technologies and industry trends.

  • Mentor junior ITS engineers.

  • Support business development efforts - get involved in professional organizations, meet new potential clients, develop proposals.

  • Other duties as assigned

BID DETAILS: The State of Rhode Island Division of Purchases on behalf of the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is considering issuance of an RFP for the implementation and support of an Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS). The desired ATMS will give appropriate RIDOT personnel, most notably its Transportation Management Center (TMC) Operators, the ability to monitor and control the various RIDOT-owned intelligent transportation systems (ITS) (such as Cameras, Changeable Message Signs, Wrong Way Driver Systems, etc.) in one place / from one platform, instead of via the individual, disparate, and manufacturer-specific software that has been used to date.
