The Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill passed by Congress in November 2021 has provided a much-needed infusion of funding that has helped launch several new ITS initiatives for RIDOT. Some new programs are being directly funded with IIJA money, while others have indirectly benefited. This year, the RIDOT TMC has completed an upgrade to its video wall and operations room, designed a new cloud-hosted camera system, awarded a contract to replace its two oldest CMS, and plans to advertise for a Safety Service Patrol. Later this year, we plan to advertise for an ATMS, procure several more CMS replacements, and have requested ITS equipment to be included in a dozen planned construction projects.
